    Plaquenil joint pain

My rheumatologist is running tests but thinks I have a mixed connective tissue disease. I noticed plaquenil helping with my fatigue more so than anything else. I just want some relief from the knee, shoulder and wrist pain. It does help my joint pain but I need extra help from other meds too It can take up to 6 months to get in your system and fully work, each person is different.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil – American College of Rheumatology – It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Plaquenil is prescribed as a disease-modifier, in other words, to decrease pain, decrease swelling, and prevent joint damage and disability. It is not known how Plaquenil works but researchers believe that Plaquenil interferes with communication between cells within the immune system. Nov 28, 2010 Plaquenil reduces inflammation in many Rheumatic disorders, the mode of action is pretty complicated though so I shan't bore you with all the details, but basically it prevents your dendritic cells these are messengers for your immune system, if you will from interacting with your T-Cells a special type of white blood cell which through a convoluted and boring process, causes inflammation.

If it does not help the joint pain be sure to talk to your doctor, there are other meds they can give you to help. From what I understand, it is "the first line of defense" and definitely worth a try! I pray it doesn't take that long for you to get some relief. Plaquenil was great for the pain and swelling but did almost nothing for the fatigue. Of all the meds, Plaquenil was the best for me and helped the most, but some people don't tolerate it.
